Zimbabwean Care Worker Arrested in Leeds Assault Drama

Leeds, UK — A Zimbabwean man, Fungai Muzenda, has been arrested in a shocking incident that has rocked a Leeds care home after he violently attacked his wife, Egenia Muzenda, and an 83-year-old male patient she was taking care of. Authorities say the attack was fueled by jealousy and rage after Fungai allegedly discovered that Egenia was having an affair with the elderly resident.

The incident occurred at Rosehill Court Nursing Home, where both Egenia and the elderly patient—identified as Mr. Albert Thompson—were found bruised and bleeding after what police describe as a "frenzied assault." Witnesses said Fungai stormed into the facility shortly after Egenia’s shift began, shouting accusations before attacking both the unsuspecting patient and his wife with a metal walking stick taken from the hallway.

According to sources close to the family, Fungai had suspected for months that something was going on between Egenia and Mr. Thompson, but the situation escalated after he allegedly found explicit messages between the two. “He just snapped,” said one care home staff member, who asked not to be named. “We knew there were issues in their marriage, but nobody saw this coming—especially involving a man old enough to be her grandfather.”

Fungai Muzenda was arrested at the scene and is currently being held at the Leeds Central Police Station on charges of aggravated assault and causing grievous bodily harm. Both Egenia and Mr. Thompson are recovering in hospital, and social services have launched a separate investigation into safeguarding failures at the facility. The care home has issued a brief statement promising “full cooperation with police” and offering support to residents and families shaken by the scandal.
