Eyewitnesses say heavy rains had swollen the river far beyond safe levels, turning it into a violent, fast-moving current. Despite warnings from onlookers, the businessman reportedly tried to cross, confident his powerful double cab could handle the water. Moments later, disaster struck.

The GD-6 was lifted off the road and dragged downstream, spinning helplessly as water poured over the bonnet. Screams erupted as people watched in horror, fearing the worst. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape the vehicle and was rescued by nearby residents, sustaining only minor injuries. The vehicle, however, was severely damaged and later recovered several metres away.

The incident has sparked intense debate online, with many Zimbabweans warning against underestimating floodwaters, no matter the vehicle.

“Water doesn’t care if it’s a GD-6 or a donkey cart,” one resident remarked.

Authorities have once again urged motorists to avoid flooded crossings, reminding the public that just a few seconds of poor judgment can lead to loss of life and property.

⚠️ With rains continuing across the country, Zimbabweans are urged to stay alert and put safety first.
