Prosper Vanhuvaone, who pretended to be a doctor at Mpilo Hospital has been found guilty and sentenced to 84 months in prison. However, he will only serve 42 months if he pays back the money he took from unsuspecting victims by 30 July 2025.
Before the sentencing, Vanhuvaone told the court that he regrets his actions and is committed to reforming. He said that he took the dishonest path due to pressure from his peers, many of whom had already graduated. He also expressed a desire to complete his medical studies through proper channels.
Vanhuvaone’s fraudulent activities included defrauding several people, such as Samantha Ziki, whom he allegedly duped out of US$1,600 in a botched nursing programme scam.
Another victim, Faith Hove, paid US$120 for medical services under the false belief that Vanhuvaone was a registered doctor.
