Gauteng, on Sunday evening, August 2025, where a 51-year-old mother and her three adult children drowned during a traditional cleansing ritual. The victims included a 36-year-old daughter and two sons in their twenties. A seven-year-old sibling, who didn't participate in the ritual, alerted authorities when the family members failed to resurface. SAPS divers recovered the bodies of the
mother and daughter on Sunday, but due to the dam's depth, the sons' bodies weren't retrieved until Monday, August 2025. The Boschkop police station has opened an inquest docket and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths.
