Tinotenda passed away at Chitungwiza Hospital, where he was receiving specialist treatment. The boy was supposed to be taken to a children's home once he recovered.
Chitungwiza Hospital's public relations department confirmed the death.
Tinotenda lived in a room locked by his father, Hebert Purumero, 45, and stepmother, Memory Kamuchato. They denied him food, and he would feed on his human waste.
