FROM INBOX | I have a story that I need your help to share widely on Facebook. Terrence Mrewa, was murder€d by a police officer in Plumtree.
Terrence, who worked as a cross-border transporter (malaitsha), left Francistown on the 27th of May 2025 heading to Bulawayo. On the Zimbabwean side, he gave a friend a lift to Bulawayo.
At a roadblock in Plumtree, known as pa"98", he was stopped by police and he complied. However, an officer named Lizwe Moyo was not satisfied with the bribe he received from Terrence. Moyo, who was not even on duty that day, then chased after him using a government police vehicle.
During the chase, Officer Moyo shot the left rear tyre of Terrence’s car. This caused the vehicle to lose control, roll over, and Terrence died at the scene. After realising that someone had died, Moyo and his colleague fled the scene.
The passenger managed to escape and hid nearby. About 40 minutes later, Officer Moyo returned with a drone, trying to locate the passenger. The whole night they searched without success, but the passenger later reported hearing their voices saying, "Dai tawana uyu, nekuti ndiye anozobuditsa nyaya".
To cover up the incident, they allegedly removed the tyre that had been shot and replaced it with a 16-inch tyre from a Toyota, even though Terrence’s car was a Caravan with a different rim. The replacement tyre doesn’t match the others, doesn’t fit the hub properly, and is much older than the nearly new tyres that were on the car.
A murd€r case has been opened against Officer Lizwe Moyo, but it’s worrying that some officers at Plumtree Police Station are trying to protect him.
