A prominent church leader who claimed to be a spiritual healer has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of serious misconduct involving members of his congregation.
Walter Masocha, 61, originally from Zimbabwe, built a large following in the UK after founding Agape for All Nations Church in 2007. With over 2,000 members, Masocha was seen by many as a father figure and spiritual guide.
However, beneath the surface of his growing ministry, disturbing allegations emerged. Two women came forward with testimonies of inappropriate behavior that took place between 2006 and 2012. One woman described being taken advantage of under the guise of spiritual deliverance, while another shared her experience of being targeted while staying at his home.
Despite denying all allegations, a jury at the High Court in Livingston found Masocha guilty. The presiding judge, Susan Craig, labeled his actions as “appalling” and issued non-harassment orders to protect the victims.
This isn’t the first time Masocha has faced accusations. A previous conviction in 2015 was overturned, but new evidence led to the reopening of the case. The court noted that Masocha’s name would likely remain on the sex offenders register permanently.
Crown advocate Michael McIntosh remarked, “Walter Masocha wasn't just a preacher — he used his influence in deeply troubling ways.”
This case serves as a sobering reminder that no position of power should ever go unchecked, and justice will prevail — even in the most trusted institutions.
