Zimbabwean Care Worker Caught Abusing Elderly in Manchester Nursing Home

Manchester, UK – Outrage is spreading across the UK and Zimbabwean communities worldwide after Zviko Manyengavana, a 42-year-old care worker originally from Zimbabwe, was arrested following the discovery of disturbing hidden camera footage. The footage, secretly recorded by the family of a 91-year-old resident, shows Manyengavana verbally abusing elderly patients and stealing cash and valuables from their rooms inside a well-known Manchester nursing facility.

Manyengavana, who had been living in the UK for over a decade, was reportedly a long-time employee and considered trustworthy by colleagues and families alike. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that he has been charged with multiple counts of theft, elder abuse, and misconduct in a position of trust. “This is one of the most upsetting breaches of care we’ve seen in recent years,” said a police spokesperson. Several other families have since come forward with similar concerns, prompting a wider investigation into the facility and its staff.

The arrest has sparked anger not only in Manchester but also among Zimbabweans back home and in the diaspora, many of whom work in the UK care sector. Calls are growing louder for tighter regulations, better vetting of foreign care workers, and surveillance in elderly care homes. Manyengavana is expected to appear in court later this week, where more charges may be announced as investigators gather additional evidence.
