Zimbabweans Caught Smuggling Cigarettes Into South Africa on Foot

Zimbabwean authorities have raised concern over the growing trend of tobacco products being smuggled into South Africa through illegal crossing points near Beitbridge. According to officials, small groups are carrying cigarette cartons and processed tobacco on foot across the border to sell them at higher prices.

Law enforcement agencies from both countries have intensified patrols and joint operations to curb the practice. Authorities say the smuggling not only causes loss of tax revenue but also fuels unfair competition for legitimate businesses. Efforts are underway to strengthen border controls and promote legal trade between the two nations.
