A wave of frustration has hit Prophet Walter Magaya’s followers in Cape Town, South Africa, as dozens of angry Zimbabweans gathered at his church demanding refunds for the Housing Project they say they were promised years ago.
Videos circulating on social media show crowds chanting outside the church premises, holding up receipts and documents as proof of their investments. Many claim they paid thousands of rands toward residential stands under Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries housing initiative — a dream that has since turned into disappointment.
Eyewitnesses say some of the congregants were shouting “Tirikuda mari yedu! (We want our money!)” as they called on Magaya to address them directly. Others say they joined the project in hopes of owning affordable homes in Zimbabwe but have seen no progress to date.
Authorities in both Zimbabwe and South Africa have not yet commented on the situation, but community leaders in Cape Town have urged calm, calling for dialogue between the church and affected investors.
? “We trusted the man of God. We sold everything to join this project,” said one of the victims. “Now we just want our money back.”
The unfolding drama has sparked heated debate online, with many Zimbabweans sharing mixed reactions — some sympathizing with the victims, while others warn against mixing faith with financial investments.
