According to an official statement released by the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, Mrs. Mutasa passed away on Saturday, 8 November 2025, after a short , at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare.
“Our prayers are with the Mutasa family during this time of mourning. Mrs. Mutasa will be remembered as a pillar of support to pro-democracy champion Peter Mutasa,” the Coalition said in its condolence message.
Mrs. Mutasa’s death comes as a heavy blow to the democracy movement, where her husband has played a leading role in advocating for workers’ rights, social justice, and political reforms in Zimbabwe. Colleagues and activists across the region have begun sending messages of condolence, describing her as a quiet yet steadfast supporter of the struggle for freedom and accountability.

The Zimbabwe Confederation of Trade Unions (ZCTU), civic‑society groups and citizens are mourning the loss of Mrs. Wendy Sukuta-Mutasa, the wife of former ZCTU President Cde Peter Gift Mutasa. After a brief illness, she passed away on Friday, leaving many citizens deeply saddened. Mourners first gathered at the family home in Kuwadzana Phase 3 before the burial, which took place today at Glenforest Cemetery.
ZCTU Secretary‑General Tirivanhu Marimo said the union was shocked by the news of Mrs Wendy Sukuta Mutasa’s death and expressed heartfelt sympathy for Mr Peter Gift Mutasa and his family, urging labour activists to stay united in solidarity. Family representative Mr Luke Mutasa recalled how Mrs Wendy Sukuta-Mutasa’s encouragement enabled him to study and start a business, describing her as a vital pillar in their lives. Harare’s Ward 45 Councillor Jubilation Shoko added that Mrs Mutasa who was also known as Mai Vimbai was a steadfast supporter of her husband’s activism and a motherly figure in the ward, noting the heavy toll borne by spouses of civic leaders.
Among the hundreds in attendance were ZCTU executives, Hon. Mrs Mutasa passed on after a short illness and her burial is set for November 2025 at Glen Forest cemetery.
