Gweru Medical Doctor arrested for using Mutoriro in Gweru

Farikai Manjeya (49), a medical doctor from Gweru, has been arrested together with Tafara Chigoya (28), Kudakwashe Godknows Mutata (29), and Tariro Pambwa (35) for possessing and using methamphetamine, commonly known as Mutoriro.

Police received a tip-off about drug activity at the doctors’ cottages in Gweru, where Dr. Manjeya lives. When detectives went there on November 9, 2025, they allegedly found Dr. Manjeya and the others smoking crystal meth using J-pipes and lighters. The police seized the items and arrested all four suspects.

They have been taken to court and are being held in custody while waiting for their bail hearing.

The National Prosecuting Authority said this case shows that drug offences will not be tolerated and encouraged the public to report drug use to protect young people and communities.
