On Saturday in the leafy suburb of Mabelreign, Harare, a young man named Tinashe arrived with a team of elders (vanyai) to pay the lobola (bride price) for his girlfriend Ruvimbo.
However, the negotiations took an unexpected turn when the in-laws rejected his hard-earned $4,600 USD offer. They insisted the amount was insufficient for their daughter, a Crop Science graduate, and demanded at least $8,000 USD. The negotiations collapsed, leaving Tinashe’s hopes in ruins.
However, the heartbreak was short-lived.
By Sunday evening , rumours began circulating that Tinashe had wasted no time moving on. He reportedly proposed to another woman named Nyasha only a day after the failed negotiations. Via @zim_daily_society
