Zimbabwean truck driver arrested with R210,000 in counterfeit cigarettes in Rustenburg
A targeted intelligence operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Rustenburg has led to the arrest of a foreign national and the seizure of counterfeit cigarettes worth more than R210,000.
On Monday, 29 September 2025, officers intercepted a twenty-wheeled truck in East End, Rustenburg, after receiving tips that illicit goods were being smuggled into the area. A search of the trailer revealed 42 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes hidden inside.
The 32-year-old Zimbabwean driver was arrested at the scene. In addition to the contraband, police confiscated the truck and trailer, valued at over R595,000.
The suspect is facing charges for possession of illicit cigarettes and remains in custody as investigations continue. - MDN
