Tragedy struck at Chikurubi Damview on Sunday when a fierce fight between two former inmates over fishing nets turned fatal, claiming the life of 27-year-old Tanyaradzwa Innocent Muzari.
Muzari had been fishing with 46-year-old Stanley Dhlamini Tutani, a former neighbour and friend from Chamboko Farm in Gletwin. The two men, both carrying troubled pasts, had forged a bond during their incarceration at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison. Muzari served eight years for rape, while Tutani had previously been jailed for
poaching. After completing their sentences, the pair ventured into fish mongering at ZPCS Damview, appearing to be rebuilding their lives. However, their friendship reportedly deteriorated about two weeks before the fatal incident following a simmering dispute.
The deadly confrontation occurred at around 3am on Sunday, when the two were allegedly involved in illegal fishing at the heavily guarded dam. Tensions flared when Muzari accused Tutani of stealing his fishing nets, triggering a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical fight, with fatal consequences.
