TWO Harare men have appeared in court facing charges of unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances and theft after allegedly stealing US$250 000 from a residential property in the capital.
Learnmore Mirison (25) and Thomas Kanhu (31) were arraigned before the courts on Monday, where they were remanded in custody to April 15.
The court heard that on April 8, the pair allegedly broke into a house belonging to a Chinese national and stole a safe containing US$250 000.
It is alleged that the suspects used a hired vehicle to transport the safe to Eastview, where they broke it open and shared the money.
The theft was discovered the following morning after the complainant realised that keys to the safe room were missing.
Police investigations led to the recovery of the broken safe in Eastview, along with US$31 800 allegedly found in Mirison’s possession.
Further investigations resulted in the arrest of Kanhu, from whom police recovered more than US$25 000, as well as an iPhone 16 Pro Max and an unregistered Honda Shuttle, all suspected to have been purchased using proceeds of the crime.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, 55-year-old Chishamiso Charasika reportedly lost more than US$10 000 and ZiG110 000 after suspected fraudsters gained access to his banking details.
Court papers indicate that on April 3, Aaron Gidi (41) and two accomplices still at large allegedly accessed Charasika’s CBZ Bank account details before transferring funds into their own accounts.
Gidi was granted bail and is expected back in court on May 7.
